Late Goal Lifts Syracuse Over Men's Lacrosse

OLNEY, MD. – Michael Leo's goal with 12 second left lifted No. 18 Syracuse (8-5, 1-3) over No. 12 North Carolina (7-5, 1-3) 15-14, in neutral site Atlantic Coast Conference action, held at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, Md.

- A back-and-forth first quarter saw each team score three goals, with Henry Schertzinger, Logan McGovern, and James Matan each finding the back of the net once.
- The Tar Heels scored the second quarter's first three goals, to stretch their lead to three, the largest for either team in the matchup.
- Syracuse would halt the momentum with two-straight of their own, however a Harry Wellford goal would help Carolina hold a 7-5 advantage entering the halftime break.
- The Orange would collect three consecutive goals coming out of the half, however Schertzinger would score his second goal of the game to stop the run.
- Syracuse would respond with a goal, however the Tar Heels rattled off three-straight goals, to hold a 11-9 edge. The Orange closed the third quarter finding the back of the net, with North Carolina leading by one entering the final 15 minutes, 11-10.
- The Orange would start the fourth with a 4-1 spurt, which created the largest 'Cuse lead of the day, 14-12.
- Griffin Gallagher and Dewey Egan would help the Tar Heels tie the matchup at 14-all, with just under three minutes remaining.
- Leo's goal with 12 second left would be the deciding factor, helping Syracuse to the neutral site victory.
- McGovern's hat trick was tied for the game best three goals.
- In total, five different UNC players posted multi-goal efforts.
- Four Tar Heels caused two turnovers in the contest.

- The Tar Heels travel to South Bend, Ind. Next Saturday, to face No. 1 Notre Dame. Opening faceoff is slated for noon, and can be watched live on ESPNU.
