Softball Set To Host Wednesday Matchup With Charlotte

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Carolina softball team (23-25, 11-9 ACC) will play its second-to-last home game of the 2023 season on Wednesday night, hosting Charlotte at 6 p.m.
The game will be streamed on ACCNX and Matt Krause will have the call. Admission to Anderson Stadium is free.

- Charlotte associate head coach Taylor Wike is a Carolina softball alum. A 2017 graduate, she currently holds the program record for career on-base percentage, double plays and assists and ranks No. 2 in career hits, walks, and runs, No. 3 in total bases, No. 5 in doubles and stolen base percentage, No. 6 RBIs, No. 7 in slugging percentage and sacrifice flies
- Lilli Backes and Kiersten Licea each garnered ACC Softball Weekly awards on Tuesday. Backes was named ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week and Licea was named ACC Co-Player of the Week. Both are the first weekly honors of their careers and first for Carolina this season. Licea was also named Extra Innings Softball National Player of the Week
- Alex Brown enters the matchup with a 12-game hitting streak. The sophomore shortstop ranks fifth in the ACC in hits (56) and No. 7 in batting average (.403)
- Backes (14-12) has pitched the second-most innings of any pitcher in the ACC (156.2) and has the fifth-most strikeouts (129). She has earned seven straight victories in the circle
