Rowing Finishes Regular Season Saturday At Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The North Carolina rowing program finishes off the 2023 regular season this weekend, traveling north to take part in the UVA Invite, hosted by fellow ACC institution Virginia.Â

The Tar Heels are one of four teams in the event, joined by Navy, Tennessee, and host Virginia. In the morning, the Tar Heels will square off with Navy, closing the day racing against Tennessee.Â

Last Time Out
North Carolina co-hosted the 2023 Lake Wheeler Invitational last weekend, along with Duke.Â
The first day from Lake Wheeler was comprised of two rounds, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, on the sunny Friday afternoon.

The Tar Heel first varsity four boat improved their time two seconds, compared to the last time out, finishing sixth in their race in a time of 7:38.88. For the second varsity four, the Tar Heels finished fifth in their respective race, with a time of 7:46.47.

The Carolina first varsity eight squad crossed the finish line sixth in their heat, with a time of 6:49.79. With the Tar Heel second varsity eight heat, North Carolina crossed the finish line sixth, at 6:50.10. Rounding out the morning session, the third varsity eight, North Carolina finished fifth, in a time of 7:00.07. The mark, was a 35-second improvement for the boat since their last time out, on March 4.

In heat two for the first varsity four, Carolina finished at 8:10.46, good for sixth in their respective race. The Tar Heel second varsity four crossed the finish line with a mark of 8:21.04, good for sixth in their second turn of the day.

For the first varsity eight boat in the afternoon, UNC finished sixth at a time of 7:15.23. With the second varsity eight squad, the Tar Heels finished with a 7:26.69 time, earning sixth in their heat. The UNC third varsity eight team finished fifth in their afternoon heat, at a time of 8:06.26.
On day two, four of the Tar Heel boats made time improvements in comparison to their Friday afternoon marks. The first varsity eight boat improved by 11 seconds, finishing sixth in its heat with a time of 7:04.60. The second varsity eight cut eight second off its previous mark Friday afternoon, finishing in 7:18.66. At the third varsity eight, the Tar Heels erased more than 30 seconds off their time from the latter half of Friday, crossing the finish line in 7:32.41.Â
Moving on to the first varsity four, UNC trimmed two seconds of time in comparison to Friday, finishing in sixth place with a time of 8:08.28. Rounding out the weekend with the second varsity four, Carolina crossed the finish line in fifth with a mark of 8:24.25.Â
