Baseball Visits Virginia Tech In Key ACC Series

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC heads to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend for a key three-game ACC Coastal Division series against Virginia Tech starting Friday, April 28, at 1 p.m.
Friday's series opener was originally scheduled for a 7 p.m. start but was moved up to an afternoon start due to the threat of inclement threat on Friday night. Saturday's game remains scheduled for 7 p.m., and Sunday's finale is slated for 1 p.m. The first and final games of the series will be streamed on ACCNX, while Saturday's contest will be televised on ACC Network.
North Carolina sits one-half game behind Virginia Tech for fourth place in the Coastal Division and seventh-place in the overall ACC standings. The Tar Heels enter the weekend 1.5 games clear of the final spot in the 12-team ACC Baseball Championship, which will be held in Durham in late May.
UNC (26-15, 9-10) snapped a three-game losing streak Tuesday with an 18-2 win over UNCW. Mac Horvath hit two home runs and drove in eight with Alberto Osuna and Jackson Van De Brake each driving in two.
Virginia Tech (24-14, 10-10) is coming off a 7-5 victory over James Madison on Tuesday.
The Tar Heels are 5-2 on the road in ACC play this season, winning two of the three at both Notre Dame and Georgia Tech and posting a win in its lone game at Pittsburgh. Carolina is 6-3 overall in true road games.
THE SERIES
North Carolina is 81-31-2 all-time against Virginia Tech, including a 38-9 record in ACC play. The Tar Heels and Hokies split their four games last season with UNC knocking the Hokies out of the ACC tournament with a 10-0 win in the final game of pool play. North Carolina is 3-3 in its last six games in Blacksburg and owns a 31-15 record here.
STRETCH RUN
The Tar Heels will play 12 of their final 13 regular season games against teams ranked ahead of them in the RPI: Coastal Carolina (8), East Carolina (19), Clemson (22), NC State (25), Campbell (35) and Virginia Tech (43). Eight of those 13 games are on the road with ACC series at Virginia Tech and Clemson, plus single games at East Carolina and Coastal Carolina.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Junior Mac Horvath is one of three NCAA D1 players to have 15 home runs and 15 stolen bases. He hit his 15th and 16th home runs on Tuesday after stealing his 17th base over the weekend against Boston College. Last season, he hit 18 home runs and stole 19 bases last season.
