Levy To Be Honored At USA Lacrosse Foundation Gala
May 2, 2023 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – One of the best coaches in the history of lacrosse, University of North Carolina's own Jenny Levy, will be honored at the second annual USA Lacrosse Foundation Gala on June 7 at Gotham Hall in New York City.Â
She will be joined by fellow honoree Bill Tierney, head men's lacrosse coach at Denver.
The USA Lacrosse Foundation Gala debuted last year, honoring three former U.S. team players and helping raise over $650,000 to support USA Lacrosse's mission of growing and developing the sport.
The U.S. stars at the event are the inspiration for the generation of new players, many of whom will first touch a stick due to the support of USA Lacrosse. The fun-filled, energetic evening in June will be hosted by Lindsay Shookus, an Emmy-award winning producer who worked for NBC's Saturday Night Live for 20 years.
Levy and Tierney are passionate supporters of the growth of the sport, and have similar track records of success. Both have won multiple NCAA championships and a gold medal as head coach of the U.S. national team, along with induction into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
As head coach of the U.S. Women's National Team, Levy led Team USA to the gold medal last summer at the World Lacrosse Championship in Towson, Maryland. It was the fourth-straight time the U.S. had been crowned world champion, and first on home soil.
Now in her 28th season as the only head coach in program history, Levy has built the Tar Heels into a national powerhouse. She has topped 400 career victories, which ranks third all-time in NCAA Division I women's lacrosse history and second among active DI head coaches.
Levy has guided the Tar Heels to three national championships, most recently in 2022 after an undefeated season. Her three NCAA titles rank fourth all-time among head coaches, while her 40 NCAA Tournament wins and 13 Final Four appearances both rank third.
A standout player at Virginia, Levy was a two-time First Team All-America selection. She helped the Cavaliers win the 1991 NCAA title where she was named the tournament's most outstanding attacker.
The USA Lacrosse Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves as the philanthropic arm of USA Lacrosse. The Foundation helps drive the three main pillars of the USA Lacrosse mission: 1) Fuel the growth; 2) Enrich the experience; 3) Field the best national teams.Â
