A Trip To ACC Baseball Semis At Stake Against UVA

DURHAM, N.C. – Seventh-seeded North Carolina will play No. 2 seed Virginia for a spot in the 2023 ACC Baseball Championship semifinals as the winner of Pool B Thursday at 3 p.m. inside the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
All ACC Baseball Championship games will be carried live on ACC Network through the semifinals. The championship game will be televised on ESPN2, Sunday at noon.
B&T HVAC will present ACC Tournament coverage on GoHeels.com and WCHL 97.9 FM and 1360 AM.
The Tar Heels defeated No. 11 Georgia Tech 11-5 Tuesday to open pool play, while the Cavaliers beat the Yellow Jackets 15-1 Wednesday.
Virginia took two of three from North Carolina on the opening weekend of conference play in early March.
North Carolina will send junior right-hander Jake Knapp to the mound against the Cavaliers, who will counter with left-hander Connelly Early.
Knapp started the series' final game, tossed 4 1/3 shutout innings and allowed two hits with five walks and four strikeouts.
UNC has won six consecutive games at the ACC Baseball Championship dating back to the 2021 tournament and advanced to the semifinals in three of the past five tournaments (2017, 2019, 2022).
Tomas Frick and Patrick Alvarez each went 3-for-5 in the win over Georgia Tech on Tuesday. Alvarez drove in three runs, and Frick scored two. UNC racked up 15 hits, with six of the nine starters collecting multiple hits.
Alvarez has hit in four straight since returning from injury.
Virginia owns the ACC's top offense, hitting .336 as a team and averaging over nine runs per game. The Cavaliers ranked second in the conference with a 3.87 ERA.
UVA catcher Kyle Teel was selected as the ACC Player of the Year. He led the conference in batting average (.414) and total hits (91) with 11 homers with 58 RBI. Third baseman Jake Gelof, outfielder Ethan O'Donnell, and shortstop Griff O'Ferrall were named first-team all-conference, along with Teel.
