Diamond Heels Open Final Homestand Against Gardner-Webb

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – UNC opens its final homestand of the season Tuesday night against Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. inside Boshamer Stadium.
The last three games of the homestand are against NC State, with the series starting Thursday night. Friday and Saturday's games are sold out.
The Tar Heels return to competition following a six-day exam break with four wins in their last six games. North Carolina is 20-12 at home this season with an 11-2 midweek record at Boshamer Stadium.
In their last four wins, the Tar Heels posted a run differential of +23 and outscored their opponents 45-18. UNC hit .287 in those wins, while Tar Heel pitchers held opposing batters to a .224 average with a 4.50 ERA.
North Carolina batted .382 (21-for-55) with two outs and collected 20 two-out RBIs in those four victories.
Casey Cook (35) and Vance Honeycutt (31) have each reached base in more than 30 consecutive games, while Mac Horvath owns the Tar Heels' longest hitting streak at six games.
Horvath leads North Carolina with 19 home runs, 56 RBIs, 21 stolen bases, and a 1.144 OPS.
Jake Knapp (3-3, 5.28) will take the mound for the first time since April 29.
Gardner-Webb enters Tuesday's game on a six-game losing streak after being swept by Georgia Tech and USC Upstate the past two weekends. The Bulldogs are 27-19 overall with a 12-9 record in the Big South Conference.
Outfielder Curtis Robinson leads the Bulldogs with a .368 batting average and 39 RBIs and is 17-for-17 in stolen base attempts. Nate Anderson leads the team with 18 stolen bases, while Pete Capobianco has hit a team-best 10 home runs.
Junior right-handed pitcher Joe Miceli (1-0, 11.42) will make his first start. He's pitched 8.2 innings with six appearances.

THE SERIES
North Carolina is 18-2 all-time against Gardner-Webb since the series began in 2004, including a 12-5 victory at home last season. The Tar Heels are 8-1 against the Bulldogs at Boshamer Stadium since it was renovated in 2009.

UNC head coach Scott Forbes enters Tuesday night's game one win shy of 100 for his career with a record of 99-66. Forbes will be the third-fastest coach to reach the century mark behind Mike Fox (139) and Mike Roberts (149).
PERFECT VISION
Horvath is one home run away from becoming the second member of the school's 20-20 club alongside Honeycutt. Horvath has 19 home runs and 21 stolen bases this season. A year ago, Honeycutt became the first player in UNC history to hit 20 home runs (25) and steal 20 bases (29) in the same season.
TAKE YOUR BASE
Honeycutt leads the ACC with 49 bases on balls this season, sixth-most in NCAA Division I, through 46 games with an average of 1.07 walks per game. As a freshman in 2022, he drew 41 walks in 64 games.
