CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina men's and women's basketball teams will face Oklahoma in the 2023 Jumpman Invitational, set for December in Charlotte. It's a return engagement for the Tar Heels, who also participated in the inaugural event at the Spectrum Center in 2022.
The UNC-Oklahoma women's matchup will open the event on Dec. 19, with Florida-Michigan men to follow. On Dec. 20, the Florida and Michigan women will play, followed by the UNC and Oklahoma men.
Times and TV designations are still TBA.
The UNC-Oklahoma women's all-time series is tied at 2-2, with the most recent meeting in 2008-09 in Norman, Okla. In the fifth game of that season and Carolina's first on the road, the Tar Heels won 80-79 on the Sooners' home court in a WNIT matchup.
The teams have met twice before at neutral sites, splitting those games. UNC won 68-61 in Los Angeles in 1997 and Oklahoma won 66-63 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in 2002.
In last year's Jumpman Invitational, Carolina fell 76-68 to Michigan. Five Tar Heels hit double figures, led by Deja Kelly's 15 points. Alyssa Ustby turned in a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Tar Heel men are 3-0 all-time against Oklahoma, with all three previous games played at neutral sites. UNC defeated the Sooners in the 1982-83 season in the Rainbow Classic in Honolulu, the 1990 NCAA Tournament second round in Austin, Texas, and the 2009 Elite Eight in Memphis.
Last season, Armando Bacot scored a game-high 26 points to defeat Michigan, 80-76, in the inaugural Jumpman Invitational. The Tar Heels improved to 165-27 all-time in Charlotte, including 15-2 in the Spectrum Center.
Both teams' 2023-24 schedules are still to be announced. Stay tuned to GoHeels.com for updates.
