Autumn Owen And Alex Coleman Join Carolina Softball

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Carolina softball head coach Megan Smith Lyon has announced the addition of Autumn Owen and Alex Coleman, two transfers from Marshall who will join the Tar Heels in Fall 2023. Both 2023 Sun Belt All-Conference First team selections, Owen and Coleman were the top two hitters for the Thundering Herd last season.
Owen led Marshall in batting average (.444), slugging percentage (.887), RBIs (71), home runs (19), total bases (134), walks (40) and sacrifice flies (5). She was also the Sun Belt Triple Crown winner, leading the conference in batting average, home runs and RBIs. Owen's 71 RBIs are the most in a single-season in Marshall program history. She was a 2023 Second team All-America by D1Softball.com and a NFCA Third team All-America.
Coleman is a rising junior from Asheboro, N.C. who plays in the outfield. She started all 55 games for Marshall in 2023 and was the team's leadoff hitter for the majority of the season. Coleman finished the regular season as the Sun Belt's leader in hits (79), which ranked fifth-nationally, and held the conference's second-highest batting average (.427).
She also plated a team-best 61 runs, one run shy of a single-season program record. Coleman earned 2023 NFCA First team All-Region honors in May. She played travel ball with now-Carolina teammates Carlie Myrtle, Shelby Sykora and Regan Weisner.
Both Coleman and Owen recorded a team-best 22 multi-hit games, while Owen led the Thundering Herd with 21 multi-RBI outings.

Owen, who comes to Chapel Hill as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility, is a Mill Spring, N.C., native. The 5-foot-7 catcher started all 55 games for Marshall in 2023, having one of the best offensive seasons in program history.Owen led Marshall in batting average (.444), slugging percentage (.887), RBIs (71), home runs (19), total bases (134), walks (40) and sacrifice flies (5).
