CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Mackenzie Caquatto-Jaworski has joined the University of North Carolina gymnastics staff as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 season, head coach Danna Durante announced Friday morning.
"We are thrilled to welcome Mackenzie and her family to Chapel Hill," said Durante. "As an elite athlete, she brings experience competing at the highest level on the world stage as well as collegiately, helping Florida win its first two NCAA national championships. As a coach, Mackenzie embraces a philosophy that aligns well with our program: developing young people both in and out of the gym. Carolina Gymnastics has seen significant growth in the past two years, and we look forward to Mackenzie joining us on this journey."Â
Caquatto-Jaworski will arrive in Chapel Hill having previously spent the 2023 season as an assistant coach at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, during its inaugural season. She served as the primary beam coach for the Storm, also assisting with vault and choreographing floor routines.
Helping build Simpson's program from scratch, Caquatto-Jaworski also assisted in creating conditioning and rehab programs for student-athletes, organized winter clinics and summer camps, and coordinated team travel, retreats and community service opportunities.
"I am very excited to join the coaching staff at UNC, and I am honored to become part of the incredible culture that Danna and Marie are building," said Caquatto-Jaworski. "I look forward to sharing my experiences and passion for gymnastics with this team. This is a program on the rise and I'm beyond excited to get to know and work with this talented group of student-athletes. I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together. Go Heels!"
Prior to entering the coaching ranks, Caquatto-Jaworski had a successful elite and NCAA gymnastics career. Â
As an elite gymnast, she was a four-year member of the U.S. National Team and represented Team USA in Germany, France, Italy, Japan and the Netherlands. She was a 2008 Olympic Trials competitor, a 2009 World Team alternate and a member of the Worlds Team in 2010 that earned the silver medal.
A bars and beam specialist, Caquatto-Jaworski saw a standout collegiate career at the University of Florida where she graduated as a nine-time All-American. She led the Gators to a pair of Southeastern Conference titles and two consecutive NCAA national championships, including the program's first in 2013.Â
She collected 28 all-around wins and event titles during her time in Gainesville, finishing as high as fourth at the NCAA Championships on three occasions across bars and beam. Caquatto-Jaworski was the fourth Gator gymnast in program history to ever score a perfect 10 on bars.
Caquatto-Jaworski received her bachelor's degree in elementary education in 2014 before earning her master's in special education the following year, both from UF. She garnered Scholastic All-American honors as a junior and was the recipient of the SEC's Brad Davis Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship as a senior.
A native of Naperville, Illinois, Caquatto-Jaworski and her husband, Griffin Jaworski, have one son, Zayden.Â
