October 29, 2024 | Football
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Following his performance in North Carolina's win over Virginia this weekend, senior defensive end Kaimon Rucker has been named the Bednarik Player of the Week by the Maxwell Football Club.
Â
Each week during the 2024 season the Maxwell Football Club recognizes outstanding performances with two weekly awards. The Maxwell Award Player of the Week, which honors overall performance on offense, defense, or special teams, and the Chuck Bednarik Award Player of the Week, honoring outstanding defensive play.
Â
Rucker's relentless energy and playmaking ability helped anchor the Tar Heels' defense in the 41-14 road victory over the Cavaliers on Saturday. Also earning ACC Defensive Player of the Week accolades on Monday, he was a force, posting a stat line that speaks volumes about his dominance on the field.
Â
He matched a career high with 8 total tackles, set a new career best with 3 sacks, and added 3.5 tackles for loss, consistently disrupting Virginia's offensive rhythm. Rucker also added a quarterback pressure and had his first-career interception, showcasing his versatility and ability to impact the game from multiple angles.
Â
Rucker and the Tar Heels are back in action this weekend at Florida State. Carolina takes on the Seminoles at 3:30 p.m. with coverage on ACC Network.
