Tar Heels And Senators Scrimmaged On Friday

Chapel Hill, NC--Â The North Carolina Tar Heels and the Walters State Senators held a lengthy scrimmage on Friday evening at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels took a 10-0 win in an eight-inning first game, then came from behind with two runs in the seventh and final inning of game two to scrape out an 8-7 win.
Game 1 Recap
Offensive highlights:Â Tyson Bass was a perfect 4-4 at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored. All four of Bass's hits were singles. Sam Angelo was 2-4 with four RBI and two runs scored. Angelo belted a two-run, 363-foot homer to right. Rom Kellis V was 2-3 with one run scored, and Hunter Stokely, who doubled, was 2-5 with one run scored.Â
Gavin Gallaher crushed a 407-foot, two-run homer to left center. Perry Hargett laced a two-run double down the left-field line. Alex Madera doubled for the other extra base hit. Bass had two stolen bases and Kepley had one stolen base.
Pitching highlights:Â Four Tar Heels combined to hold the Senators scoreless while giving up just three total hits. Kyle Percival started and retired all six Senators he faced in his 2.0 innings on the mound while striking out four. Aidan Haugh tossed 2.0 scoreless innings, giving up one base hit. Tom Chmielewski tossed 1.1 scoreless innings before Cameron Padgett finished things off by striking out four in his 2.2 innings on the mound.

Offensive highlights:Â Fifteen different Tar Heels had at least one at bat, but there were only four total base hits. Kane Kepley had a 368-foot homer to right that drove in two runs. Reece Holbrook was 0-0 at the plate yet had two RBI. Holbrook was hit by pitch twice. Boaz Harper had a double and scored two runs.Sawyer Black was 1-3 with one run scored and one RBI. Parker McCoy was 1-1 with one RBI and two runs scored. Kepley had one stolen base.
Pitching highlights:Â Five Tar Heels saw action on the mound: Dylan Weber, Boston Flannery, Cale Bolton, Harrison Lewis and Matthew Matthijs. Weber gave up no earned runs in 2.0 innings, striking out three of the eight batters he faced. Flannery gave up one run in 2.0 innings while striking out two. Matthijs retired the side in order in his only inning pitched, striking out two Senators.
