On team response after Alabama…
"When I came into the locker room after the game, I told them I was really proud of them… I think it's very difficult, very hard to win a conference game. I told them before the game, that playing here, playing at this level is hard and difficult, and you have to find the joy of how hard it is to be successful at this level… We didn't play fast and free, but tight and tentative and my hope is this week before our next game, it comes at the perfect time for us to heal so that we can play the best that we can play."
On what they did in practice…
"I play whatever card I need to play to get them where they need to be… The only thing on my agenda is for them to max out everything they can do on the court, off the court and in the classroom. I want them to be great, so I am not going to settle for anything less than the best that they can be out there on the floor. So, if it has to be 33s, then it does. If it has to be sitting on the bench, then it does."
On recent turnover troubles…
"We don't need home runs. We just need singles… I felt like tonight we were going for homeruns, one hand passes, behind the back passes, in between four people. I say to make routine plays routinely and simple works. I am going to go back to them and show the team how it wasn't simple, how it wasn't a routine play, that it was trying to hit homeruns, and that's something that we need to get away from."
On finding a team voice…
"I have told this year's team it's a lot quieter than years past, and I said I've never seen a good team quiet, especially defensively. This group is going to have to find its own unique voice. It doesn't have to look like previous years, doesn't have to be someone else's personality, but each team you have to have a voice. Seth has tried to bring that consistently everyday and I think he is doing a terrific job of it."
On a week-long break before playing La Salle…
"It is the perfect chance for us to heal. A chance for us to take a deep breath and practice. We were away at Hawaii, playing 4 games in six games with a time change of five hours and then coming back home with Alabama on Wednesday night and Georgia Tech at 2p.m. It's a lot of preparation as opposed to practice, so having a week off will give us a chance to practice for La Salle."
Georgia Tech Head Coach Damon Stoudamire
Opening thoughts…
"It was good to see my team come in here and fight. We've been fighting and I think that we've been pretty good defensively over the last three, four games. I think we did a good job against, you know, one of the best if not the best guards in the country."
RJ Davis
On Rallying the Team in a Tough Game…
"Just making sure everyone was good, energy-wise, and to finish the game out strong. I know we weren't playing our best basketball, but obviously, we had to continue chipping away. That was my message, and Seth's message, to the team in the huddles and even on the court."
On Learning from Mistakes…
"It was never selfish turnovers, just careless ones—miscommunications, not being in the right spots, or having the right pass. We're all looking for each other to make plays, so we just need to do a better job of getting on the same page."
Seth Trimble
On how long it's felt since their last win…
"It has indeed felt like forever. I was telling the guys on the team–in the locker room– [it] almost felt like two months. I know it's only been like two weeks, but [when] you start losing… you know, these days get longer, so [I'm] glad we finally got back on the winning track."
On seeing the stress and pressure affect his teammates…
"I've been here for three years; I can tell when guys are playing with confidence, when guys are playing with not confidence, when guys are always thinking about someone on the court. And that's kind of my job now… I'm a vet, I'm a leader, so it's my job to just keep their heads high when things are going bad. It's been me and RJ who really have kind of been the voices and the preachers in this three-game losing streak."
On the last practice…
"It was like a summer practice: really intense, really physical, getting up and down, and really just honing in on our discipline details. I mean, we do that every day, but we got punished this week if we didn't do what Coach said. I'm glad that we had that, you know, we got some things taken away from us. It really made us take a step back and kind of realize: Hey, this is the jersey that we're wearing, this is the team that we're playing for, and we really got to step it up. This is the standard."
On pulling Elliot aside after one of his turnovers…
"I could tell Elliot was frustrated with himself; annoyed with himself with his turnovers. That's just my job now. I'm a vet. I've seen it, I've been through it– he has too, I mean he's a leader on this team too. So as leader, bench player, walk-on… it's my job to be there for you."
Ian Jackson
On Leadership Sparking the Team…
"Our leaders on the floor, older guys, they talked to us. They let us know that we were losing the game and needed to come out with a certain kind of energy. Around the seven-minute mark, we kind of picked it up and pushed past them."
On Progress Despite Challenges…
"It feels good. Every win feels good. We're not holding our heads because we didn't play the best. We got a win. It's hard to win, and we got it done today."
On Defensive Improvements…
"Defensively, we can clear some things up. Turnovers—we've got to take care of the ball at a way better rate than we have been."
On Learning and Staying Focused…
"Just how to stay locked in on the defensive end. Early on, I didn't do too well—not just on the ball, but being in the right spot. I'm learning that defense definitely matters."
