With six consecutive games at home or against in-state rivals, UNC will go nearly the entire month of February without leaving the state. After Thursday's game, the Tar Heels travel to Winston-Salem to take on Wake Forest Sunday then host NC State on Feb. 22. Finally they step out of the state on Feb. 25 to face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., then travel to play Boston College on Feb. 29.
Notable Numbers
• UNC is 3-6 this season against ranked teams, with wins over Syracuse (then 25, now 19), Notre Dame (then 16, now 16) and Louisville (then 13, now 18) in January.
Four or the six losses were to teams now ranked in the top 11: South Carolina (UNC is one of three teams to play the Gamecocks within single digits) and Kansas State (then 16, now 7). UNC fell to UConn (then 17, now 15) at the Mohegan Sun Resort in Uncasville, Conn., and to NC State (then No. 5, now 6th) on Feb. 1 in Raleigh.
• Seven players on the roster have at least one 20-point game in a UNC uniform. Deja Kelly has hit 20 points on 31 occasions (10 this season, including the last three in a row). Alyssa Ustby has reached 20 seven times (two this year), Lexi Donarski and Maria Gakdeng two each, and Reniya Kelly once. Paulina Paris and Kayla McPherson each had a 20-point game during the 2022-23 season.
• The win over Miami marked the first time in ACC play and the fourth time this season that five Tar Heels had scored in double figures. In this case it was the five starters, the third time this season that has happened.
Stats Notes
• Deja Kelly leads the ACC and ranks second in the nation in free throw attempts with 174. Although her season percentage is sitting at .713, over the past eight games she's 68-80, .850. She was 13-14 from the foul line against Virginia Tech, marking the third game this season in which she's made double-digit free throws. She's coming off a 7-7 day against Duke.
• Maria Gakdeng is shooting .624 from the field, a percentage that would comfortably lead the ACC if she had the required five makes per game to be ranked. (She has 3.9 per game.)
With a career FG percentage of 59.1, Gakdeng ranks 19th among all DI players.
• Against No. 25 Syracuse on Jan. 4, Alyssa Ustby became the first player in Division I history to register 15 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists against an AP-ranked opponent. (ESPN Stats and Info)
• Against Virginia on Jan. 14, Deja Kelly became the first Tar Heel since at least 2009, the furthest back the stats track, with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and only 1 turnover. (HerHoopStats)
Milestone Watch

• Lexi Donarski is close to passing the 1,500-career-points mark. She heads into the Pitt game with 1,497 career points, 246 of them at Carolina.
• After Anya Poole played in her 100th career game on Jan. 14 vs. Virginia, the Tar Heels have four players on the roster with 100 or more career games. (Deja Kelly, Lexi Donarski, Alyssa Ustby and Poole.)
