Men's Tennis Falls At Illinois, 4-2

CHAMPAIGN, ILL.—The University of North Carolina men's tennis team got off to a good start by winning the doubles point but dropped a 4-2 decision at Illinois on Saturday night.
The Tar Heels got two tiebreaker wins to clinch the doubles point. First, freshman Patrick Schoen and senior Peter Murphy beat Mathis Debru and Kenta Miyoshi at No. 3, 7-6 (7-1). Sophomore Benjamin Kittay and graduate student Phillip Jordan clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-4) at No. 1 over Oliver Okonkwo and Lucas Horve.
Illinois grabbed the first two singles matches when Hunter Heck beat Karl Poling at No. 2 and Karlis Ozolins beat Will Jansen at No. 1, taking a 2-1 lead.
Schoen tied it up again at 2-all with a 6-1, 6-3 win over William Mroz at No. 5 singles, but Okonkwo won the clincher at No. 6 over Will Peters, 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.

With the loss, the Tar Heels drop to 3-3 this season.
Carolina will return to action next week when it hosts Elon on Thursday February 8 and Georgia on Sunday February 11.
