
Baseball Winning Streak Ends At Miami

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Blake Cyr hit a two-run home run in each of the first two innings, and Miami snapped No. 15 North Carolina's 11-game winning streak with a 14-1 seven-inning, run-rule victory on Friday night.
Cyr, Edgardo Villegas, and Jason Torres had three hits each as the Hurricanes (10-7, 3-1 ACC) racked up 16 hits against five Tar Heel pitchers.
Lorenzo Carrier hit a solo home run sandwiched between Cyr's blasts to give Miami a 5-0 lead after two innings.
UNC (16-3, 3-1 ACC) loaded the bases in the fourth and plated its lone run when Vance Honeycutt scored from third base on a fielder's choice.
Miami scored nine runs across the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Torres had a two-run single in the fourth, Villegas in the fifth, and Dorian Gonzalez in the sixth. Carrier and Antonio Jimenez added RBI singles in the sixth.
Cyr drove in four runs and Gonzalez had three RBIs.
Gage Ziehl (1-1) scattered five hits over 7.0 innings with six strikeouts to earn the victory.
UNC left-handed pitcher Folger Boaz (2-1) hadn't allowed a home run in 21 1/3 innings this season until tonight when he gave up three. Miami scored eight runs and recorded 10 hits off the freshman in 3 2/3 innings.
Carolina and Miami will resume the series on Saturday, March 16, at 7 p.m.
