Baseball Falls To Miami On Walk-Off Home Run, 2-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Dorian Gonzalez hit a walk-off home run to lead off the ninth inning and lift Miami to a 2-1 win over No. 15 North Carolina at Mark Light Field on Saturday.
It was the second time this season that the Tar Heels (16-4, 3-2 ACC) lost on a walk-off hit.
North Carolina put the go-ahead run on base with one out in the ninth, but pitcher Nick Robert struck out the final two batters of the frame.
UNC sophomore Matthew Matthijs (7-1) induced an inning-ending double play to keep the game tied after eight innings before giving up his first home run of the season in 16 2/3 innings pitched.
Carolina stranded nine runners, while Miami (11-7, 4-1 ACC) left five men on base.
The Hurricanes tied the game on a solo home run by Jason Torres with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
UNC freshman pitcher Jason DeCaro allowed just three hits over 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts before surrendering the home run to Torres. It was the only base runner that he allowed past second base.
North Carolina got on the scoreboard first with a run in the fourth as Parks Harber dashed home on a ground ball mishandled by UM third baseman Daniel Cuvet for a 1-0 lead.
The Tar Heels outhit the Hurricanes 9-7. UNC freshman Gavin Gallaher went 3-for-4 and posted the first multi-hit game of his career.
UNC and Miami will conclude the series Sunday afternoon at Mark Light Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
