Women's Swimming Opens Competition At NCAA Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of North Carolina women's swimming and diving team is in 15th place after day one of the NCAA Championships at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on Wednesday.
The foursome of Greer Pattison, Skyler Smith, Ellie VanNote, and Delaney Carlton opened the night in the 200-yard medley relay. They finished 10th in 1:35.19 and missed a spot on the podium by 0:00.10.
The quartet of Georgia Nel, Elizabeth Sowards, Madeline Smith, and VanNote posted a school-record time of 7:01.10 in the 800-yard freestyle relay and finished 19th.
The Tar Heels will return to the pool Thursday for day two of the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. The prelims start at 10 a.m., and finals begin at 6 p.m.
Thursday's events include the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM, 50-yard freestyle, 1-meter diving and 200 freestyle relay.
