Softball Sweeps Doubleheader With Back-To-Back Shutouts

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Carolina softball team (16-3) earned back-to-back shutouts on Sunday over Lafayette and Campbell to cap off a 5-1 week for the Tar Heels.
Carolina opened the day with a 13-0 five-inning victory over the Leopards, before grabbing a 6-0 win over the Camels.

At the plate, Destiny Middleton hit a team-best .800, going 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs with a walk and a pair of stolen bases.Â

The Tar Heels had two home runs, a grand slam from Isabela Emerling, her eighth home run of the season, and a solo home run from Autumn Owen, her fifth. Emerling, who had five RBIs on Sunday, now has a team-best 30 RBIs on the season.

In the circle, freshman Nikki Harris (3-1) earned her second straight complete-game shutout, allowing just a pair of Campbell hits and no walks with three strikeouts.Â

Redshirt junior Britton Rogers (6-0) earned her sixth victory of the season against Lafayette, allowing just three hits in three innings of work with two strikeouts. Senior Talia Hannappel pitched two innings of relief, allowing just one hit.

In 12 innings of work, the Tar Heel pitching staff allowed no runs, just six hits and a walk with seven strikeouts.Â
Up next, the Carolina softball team hosts Furman on Tuesday at 5 p.m. before opening ACC play on Friday against Virginia.
