Softball Drops Midweek Tilt To ECU, 6-4

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina softball team dropped a midweek tilt with ECU on Tuesday evening, 6-4, in Anderson Stadium.
The Tar Heels trailed the entirety of the game, with the Pirates hitting a two-run home run in the top of the first and a solo home run in the top of the second to take a 3-0 advantage.
Isabela Emerling made it a one-run game in the bottom of the fourth, slugging a two-run home run, her fourteenth of the season, to make it 3-2.
The Pirates were able to plate three runs on three hits and a Carolina fielding error in the seventh to add to their lead, 6-2.
The Tar Heels strung a pair of hits together in the bottom of the first, plating a run on a Pirate error and a Destiny Middleton sac fly, but the comeback came up two runs shy.
Middleton, Skyler Brooks and Carlie Myrtle each had a pair of hits in the loss.
The Tar Heels used four pitchers in the game: Talia Hannappel, Nikki Harris, Kenna Raye Dark and Janelle Wilson.
Hanappel (2-1) was charged her first loss of the season, allowing three earned runs and four hits in three innings of work.
The Tar Heels will look to rebound when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for a three-game ACC series at FSU, kicking off Friday at 6 p.m.
