RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina rowing team closed out two days of racing at the Lake Wheeler Invitational on Saturday, wrapping up the season's first "home" regatta. Co-hosted by UNC and Duke, the event included 18 teams, with Tennessee winning the points title to take home the Pocock Lake Wheeler Invitational Cup.

On Saturday, the Tar Heels took fourths in the 2V8 and 2V4 and placed fifth in the other four races.

"This weekend we were able to line up against our fastest competition to date, and it was a great opportunity to see what the kind of speed we are after looks like and where we need to go from here," UNC coach Erin Neppel said. "We continue to make good progress, but also know we have a lot to do. The next three weeks before the ACC Championships will be huge, and we have some very clear focuses heading into practice Monday morning."

After the day wrapped up with the varsity eights, the Tar Heels held a Senior Day ceremony to honor eight seniors: Kelly Baker, Camryn Gang, Lydia Houle, Gigi Maroney, Isabelle McGimsey, Karleigh Stout, Natalie Timinskas and Lauren Walsh.

Next up for UNC is the ACC Championship, which will have the Tar Heels back out to compete at Lake Wheeler on May 17 and 18.
