Rowing Heads To Raleigh For ACC Championship

RALEIGH, N.C. – UNC opens competition at the Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Championship Friday morning, returning to compete at home-away-from-home Lake Wheeler for the second time in a month. It's the 24th edition of the championship, and the second year in a row that it's being contested in Raleigh.

Competition runs on Friday morning and Saturday morning, with both days streaming on ACC Network Extra.

Action gets underway Friday at 8:05 a.m. with the Third Varsity Eight, followed by the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Second Varsity Four. There will be two heats of each event.

On Saturday, the Petite Final will be held prior to the Grand Final of each event with action set to begin at 8:05 a.m. The order of events includes the Third Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Four, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Eight.

Last year, Virginia claimed its 13th straight ACC Championship after winning four of the five Grand Finals and tallying 95 total points. Syracuse (86 points), which won the V8 Grand Final and earned ACC Crew of the Year, claimed second, while Duke (83) took home third.

Three ACC teams are ranked among the latest Pocock/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Poll, with Syracuse leading the way at No. 10. Within the top 20 is Duke at No. 15 and Virginia at No. 16. Miami and Notre Dame are currently receiving votes.
