Baseball Alums Set For New Season

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Seven Tar Heels appeared on 2024 Major League Baseball Opening Day rosters last week, and more than two dozen UNC baseball alums will start their professional seasons Friday, April 5, as the Double-A, High-A and Low-A minor league organizations open their seasons.
The Triple-A International League and Pacific Coast League began their seasons on March 29.
National League All-Star and 2023 World Series Game One starting pitcher Zac Gallen got the Opening Day knod for the Arizona Diamondbacks against the Colorado Rockies, whose roster included former Tar Heels Daniel Bard and Jacob Stallings.
J.B. Bukauskas (Brewers), Michael Busch (Cubs), Ryder Ryan (Pirates), and Trent Thornton (Mariners) were on their respective organizations' Opening Day rosters.
In addition to its seven Major League players, UNC has six alums in Triple-A, seven in Double-A, seven in High-A, and six in Low-A.
Carolina baseball alums are part of 18 MLB organizations, with the Seattle Mariners employing five former Tar Heels. The Rockies have the second-most Tar Heels in their club, with four, while the Diamondbacks and Cleveland Guardians have three.
