Baseball Looks To Finish Season Sweep Of Campbell
May 7, 2024 | Baseball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – After taking the weekend off to focus on final exams, No. 11 North Carolina will bid for a season series sweep when it faces Campbell Tuesday to wrap up their home-and-home series.
The Tar Heels (35-11) won the first game at Buies Creek, 7-3, on March 3.Â
Casey Cook ripped a 105-mph single off the glove of second baseman Chandler Riley to break a 3-3 ninth-inning tie, plating Colby Wilkerson. Anthony Donofrio then drove home two runs with a ground-rule double, and Alberto Osuna delivered an RBI single to cap the scoring.
Cook collected three RBIs, Vance Honeycutt had three hits, and Donofrio and Osuna got two hits each.
UNC is 17-4 against non-conference opponents this season, with an overall midweek record of 11-2.
Campbell (27-19) is 6-10 on the road this season but was the last team to beat UNC at Boshamer Stadium before the start of the Tar Heels' 27-game home winning streak, which ended two weeks ago.
Junior Aidan Haugh (3-1, 3.47) will make the fourth start of his career for the Tar Heels, who will employ multiple pitchers as part of a staff day. Haugh won his first three decisions before he suffered his first loss last time out against Virginia Tech, allowing three runs on five hits in four innings.
The Camels, who have lost six in a row, will also utilize multiple pitchers, with their starting pitcher announced prior to game time.
Tuesday's game will be the 52nd meeting between the Tar Heels and Camels since 1977. UNC has a 40-11 overall series advantage and an 8-2 mark in the last 10 games.
Carolina has won six of its last seven games after enduring a three-game losing streak—all by one run—outscoring its opponents, 68-16.
Honeycutt and Harber have homered in the last two games and combined for five home runs and 23 RBIs in the previous seven games.
