Graduate Transfer Shelby Barbee Signs With Softball

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Shelby Barbee is the newest member of the Carolina softball team, head coach Megan Smith Lyon announced on Wednesday. Barbee arrives in Chapel Hill after three seasons at Virginia with two years of eligibility.
An infielder from Oakboro, N.C., Barbee was an All-ACC Third team selection for the Cavaliers in 2024. She played in all 54 games for Virginia, hitting .259 on the season, the third-highest on the team, with 30 hits, two doubles, a triple, six home runs, 18 RBIs, 22 walks and 13 hit by pitches.
Barbee, who played first base, had a .319 clip in ACC play and was named an ACC Player of the Week selection on April 30.
She is the daughter of Amanda and Kelly Barbee and has an older sister, Walker, who played college softball at Elon and Pitt.
Barbee will graduate from Virginia in August with a degree in kinesiology.
