Three Former Tar Heels Begin Quest For Olympic Gold

PARIS, France – Three former North Carolina women's soccer standouts are set to compete for gold at the 2024 Olympic Games, which start this week in Paris, France. Women's football action begins on Thursday, July 25.
Katie Bowen (2012-15) will represent New Zealand in her fourth Olympic Games. Bowen, a defender, is the reigning New Zealand and Women's International Player of the Year. She was an alternate in 2012 before making the 18-person roster the past three Olympiads.
Already with 10 Olympic appearances, Crystal Dunn (2010-13) is one of just three three-time Olympians on the United States' roster. The forward earned bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and scored a goal in 2016 in Rio.
Set to make her Olympic debut for Team USA is defender Emily Fox (2017-19). Fox, who is one of nine first-time Olympians on the USWNT, arrives in Paris with 50 caps for the stars and stripes.
During group stage play – which begins July 25 – New Zealand will play in Group A while the United States will be in Group B.
