VB Downs Lipscomb In Three Sets

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Carolina volleyball team (5-1) earned their fourth sweep of the season on Saturday afternoon in Morgan Family Arena, downing Lipscomb (3-5) in straight sets at The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Classic.
As a team, Carolina led in every statistical category including outhitting the Bison .217-.009, out-blocking them 11-9 and leading them at the service line, seven aces to four.
A balanced offensive attack from the Tar Heels, senior outside hitter Mabrey Shaffmaster led the match with 14 kills on a .444 clip and eight digs, followed by sophomore outside hitter Safi Hampton who had 10 kills and eight digs.
Three Tar Heels had multi-ace matches, making up all seven of Carolina's aces: Shaffmaster (3), Safi Hampton (2) and junior libero Maddy May (2).
Setters, sophomore Zoe Behrendt (16) and graduate Taylor Eisert (17), combined for 33 of the Tar Heels' 39 assists, while May led the defense with 17 digs.
Alexis Engelbrecht matched her career-best with a pair of solo blocks and led the team with six total blocks, her most in a Carolina jersey.
