Brown And Laney Earn First ACC Honors Of The Season
September 17, 2024 | Cross Country
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – On Tuesday, Sept. 17, cross country runners Brynn Brown and Jacob Laney earned their first ACC accolades of the season. The Atlantic Coast Conference named Brown the Female Performer of the Week and Laney as the Co-Freshman of the Week.
Brown's second award of the week is coming off the heels of her National Athlete of the Week honor. Her win at the Virginia invitational this past weekend helped propel the Tar Heels to a decisive victory in their second straight sweep of the season.
Jacob Laney competed in the first 8K race of his college career on Sep. 14, and his performance helped drive the team to victory. The men's team earned 31 points to tie with UVA, but then won based on the head-to-head score of each team's top-five finishers. That meant that Laney's 12th place finish was crucial to their win as he was the fifth North Carolina runner to cross the finish line.
