CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The acclaim for head coach Courtney Banghart's 2025 recruiting class remains high, with incoming freshman Nyla Brooks named a 2025 McDonald's All-American on Monday. Brooks becomes the fifth signee under Banghart to earn the prestigious honor.
Brooks is the first incoming Tar Heel since 2021 to earn the distinction, as the No. 20 prospect by ESPN continues to add to her list of accolades. Hailing from Bishop Ireton High School in Virginia, the Waldorf, Md. native has already garnered three-time First Team WCAC honors, been named the VISSA Player of the Year, a Max Prep All-America Honoree and to the Washington Post First Team.
The 6-1 guard averaged 19.1 points and 6.1 rebounds per game as a junior last season. This season, Bishop Ireton sits at 17-3 overall and is led by Brooks averaging a team-best 18.1 points per game and 7.8 rebounds per outing.
The 24-player roster is selected from over 400 nominees across the country, with the best earning the chance to play in the all-star showcase. The 2025 McDonald's All American girls game on April 1 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. will air on ESPN2 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
