Tar Heels Called Up For Senior, Youth National Team Training Camp
January 8, 2025 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Several current and former North Carolina standouts have been called up to U.S. Women's National Team and Youth National Team training camps, as announced by U.S. Soccer on Wednesday. The camps will be held from January 14-21 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif.Â
Newly-minted national champions Maddie Dahlien and Kate Faasse, along with former UNC standouts Savy King and Avery Patterson, have been selected to the U.S. Women's National Team 2025 Futures Camp. Claudia Dickey, Crystal Dunn and Ally Sentnor were invited to the U.S. Women's National Team training camp.
Led by USWNT head coach Emma Hayes, both camps will run concurrently. The Futures Camp is a youth team call-up featuring up-and-coming Women's National Team prospects who are all age-eligible for the U.S. Under-23 WNT.
Dahlien, a forward, has been a staple on the U.S. U-20 National Team, helping Team USA to bronze at the 2024 FIFA U-20 World Cup. She had two goals and forced the game-winning own goal during the third-place match in the tournament. She earned All-ACC Third Team and All-ACC Tournament Team praise en route to the national title this past season.
Recently named the MAC Hermann Trophy winner as the National Player of the Year, this is the first youth national team call-up for Faasse. The forward led the Tar Heels to the national championship after scoring a nation-leading 20 goals and eight game-winning goals. She was named First Team All-America and First Team All-ACC, among several other accolades.Â
King '23 was the No. 2 overall selection in the 2024 NWSL Draft by Bay FC and signed a three-year deal through the 2026 season. The defender earned 12 starts last season as a rookie, capping off her first professional year with a pair of assists.Â
Patterson '23 was the 19th overall pick by Houston Dash in the 2024 NWSL Draft. She played in all 28 matches during her rookie season, finishing with one goal and two assists. The forward signed a three-year contract extension with the Dash through the 2027 regular season.
This is the first senior team call-up for goalkeeper Dickey '22, who had previously been called up to youth national team camps. She plays with Seattle Reign FC and has started 26 matches during her career, highlighted by 18 starts and 62 saves this past season. Â
Dunn '13 is one of 11 members at the camp who won gold this past summer at the Paris Olympics. The defender arrives in California as the most capped player on the roster with 155 appearances for the Stars and Stripes. She currently plays for NJ/NY Gotham FC.
Sentnor '23 earned her first USWNT cap on Nov. 30, 2024, in front of 76,000 fans at Wembley Stadium in London. The midfielder/forward was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NWSL Draft and had a standout rookie season with Utah Royals. She helped Team USA earn bronze at the U-20 World Cup and was a finalist for U.S. Young Female Player of the Year. Â
