December 2, 2025 | Women's Basketball
INDIANAPOLIS – The acclaim for North Carolina Women's Basketball guard Indya Nivar isn't going anywhere, as the senior was named one of the U.S. Basketball Writers Association five Ann Meyers Drysdale national women's honorees of the week.
The Apex, N.C., native adds to her list of accolades as she was named the ACC Player of the Week on Monday for the first time in her career.
Nivar was named the MVP of the 2025 Cancun Challenge after posting historic numbers over three games in three days. In the opener against South Dakota State, Nivar came away with the second triple double in program history after recording 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 steals against the Jackrabbits. Her 10 steals also matched the single-game program record.
She followed up the historic outing by stuffing the stat sheet against Kansas State and Columbia. Against the Wildcats, she matched her season-high with 14 points, dished out a career-high seven assists and snagged four steals. In the win over Columbia, Nivar totaled 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals. Nivar is the first player in the Courtney Banghart era to snag four plus steals in three straight games.
Under Nivar's guidance, Carolina rattled off three wins in three days to come away with its second straight multi-team event title.
Carolina returns to the court on Thursday, traveling South to No. 2 Texas for the 2025 ACC/SEC Challenge. In a ranked matchup, the Tar Heels go head-to-head with the Longhorns at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
