Women's Tennis Takes Down No. 1 Georgia, 4-3

ATHENS, GA. -- In a top-10 showdown before the ITA Indoor Team Championship, the No. 8 North Carolina Tar Heels (6-1) upset the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs (3-1), 4-3 in Athens.
North Carolina quickly jumped out to a 1-0 lead after its top two doubles pairs recorded wins on courts one and two.
On court two, the top-ranked duo of Carson Tanguilig and Susanna Maltby gave the Tar Heels the doubles point leverage with a 6-0 win. Then, on court one, Reese Brantmeier and Alanis Hamilton sealed the doubles point for Carolina with a 6-1 victory.
With the doubles point in tow, Carolina continued to add to its lead with two straight-set victories on courts two and four.
On court four, senior Carson Tanguilig added UNC's second point while Theadora Rabman collected Carolina's third point on court two.
After dropping courts three, five and six, the Bulldogs evened the match at three points a piece.
With the match on the line, Reese Brantmeier defeated the top-ranked singles player in the nation in three sets to cement the upset victory for North Carolina.

Carolina will travel to the state of Illinois for the 2025 ITA Indoor Team Championships. This year, the University of Illinois and Northwestern University are co-hosts. The Tar Heels will face their first round opponent in Evanston. The bracket is set to be released on Tuesday by the ITA.
North Carolina has won four of the last five ITA Indoor team championships.
