Softball Wraps Up Perfect Week With Win Over Princeton
February 15, 2025 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, NC - North Carolina softball faced off against two foes in the final game of the Tar Heel Invitational, the Princeton Tigers and Mother Nature.
UNC extended their winning streak to six. Tonight's game was another example of the pitching success the Tar Heels had this weekend, despite stopping play twice. Nikki Harris went four scoreless innings and Kenna Raye Dark came in and picked up her first save of the season, pitching three innings of two run ball. Dark now has 31 strikeouts in the first two weekends of the weekend, which is more than four teams in the ACC (Boston College, Cal, Georgia Tech, and Pittsburgh) had entering today.
Carolina was locked in from the first inning as they walked three times which was more than all of yesterday's entire game against the Tigers as Lexie Roberts was able to score the first run on a wild pitch.
Carlie Myrtle added an additional run by way of a solo shot, her third of the season.
The Carolina offense padded its lead in the bottom of the sixth inning as Grace Jackson scored on the wild pitch before the game's second rain delay. This time it was a 25-minute stoppage. The weather did not slow down the Tar Heels as Kat Rodriguez drove in two more runs, then Shelby Barbee worked a walk to drive a run in, then Kiannah Pierce added one more making the lead 9-2.
Rodriguez had a massive week with 12 RBI and picked up a hit in every game.
Dark returned for the seventh inning to shut things down and give the Tar Heels their sixth straight win to cap off the perfect 5-0 homestand.
Carolina heads to Columbia, S.C. on Feb. 19 to take on South Carolina at 6:00 p.m. EST.
