Softball Falls To No. 21 South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The North Carolina softball team (9-3) fell on the road on Tuesday night by a score of 11-3 to No. 21 South Carolina (11-0).

The Tar Heel bats jumped out to an early lead after Sanaa Thompson drove in two runs in the first with a single. Shelby Barbee later scored another run on a fielder's choice to take a 3-0 lead after one.

Kenna Raye Dark looked sharp early, throwing three scoreless innings. She allowed a run in the fourth making it 3-1.

 In the fifth inning, the Gamecocks hit two two-run homers to take a 5-3 lead

The Tar Heels were unable to get anything going at the plate after that first inning and were unable to mount a late inning comeback.
Â
The Gamecocks would tack on six in the sixth to end the game.
Â
One strikeout from the Tar Heel pitchers is the fewest in a game this season and 12 walks is the most given up so far this year.

Carolina is back in action this weekend for the Carolina Classic. The Tar Heels will face Maryland on Thursday at 6 p.m.
