February 26, 2025 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – For the sixth time this season, Kenna Raye Dark pitched a complete game, this time to beat Elon 13-2 to extend Carolina's win streak to four.
Dark's dominant seven strikeout, zero earned run performance brought her ERA to 2.07 and an insane 0.47 at Anderson Softball Stadium. Tonight's pitching performance tied her for the most complete games in the country and sole possession of the number one spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
The Tar Heels arms continue to shove at home. The team's ERA at home was lowered to 0.53 after tonight.
The offense backed up the dominant outing by Dark with a four-run second inning which kicked off a 13-run day to maintain the perfect 9-0 start to the home campaign.
The outfielders had a great day against, starting with left fielder, Lexie Roberts, who had a fantastic day at the plate as she drove in at least one run in every inning from the second inning on totaling four RBI.
Center fielder Sanna Thompson is now riding a seven-game hit streak after her two knocks. Seven games is the longest hit streak by a Tar Heel this season
Alex Coleman legged out an infield single in the first inning which brought her on-base streak to seven. Her and Thompson each have the third longest on-base streak this season and the longest active on the team.
This win pushing UNC to 9-0 at home. Over the perfect start, Carolina pitching has struck out more batters than inning pitched with 56 Ks over 53 innings while only allowing four earned runs. They've thrown six complete games, five of which were shutouts, one was a perfect game, and one was a no-hitter over that stretch.
The hitting has backed up the pitching this season especially at home, after tonight's offensive outburst, the Tar Heels have outscored opponents 78-7 at home while slashing .410/.502/.595 as a team. Sanaa Thompson is hitting an impressive .565 in her nine starts at home with seven RBI. Kat Rodriguez and Kiannah Pierce are driving in runners seemingly every time they step to the plate with 12 and 11 RBI respectively. Seven Tar Heels have more than five RBI at home so far this season.
The Tar Heels are set to host one last tournament this weekend before ACC play opens. They play host to Harvard, Kent State, and St. Joe's in the Mizuno Showdown at Anderson Softball Stadium starting on Friday.
