No. 13 WBB Honored As USBWA’s Team Of The Week
February 4, 2025 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Coming off back-to-back road wins in the Bay Area over California and Stanford to reach the 20-win plateau for the fastest time in a season since 2012-13, No. 13 North Carolina women's basketball has been named the U.S. Basketball Writers Association's Team of the Week.
In the 65-52 victory over then No. 19 Cal, Carolina earned its first ranked road win of the year for its fourth straight season toppling a ranked squad on its home court. The margin of victory also marked the largest road victory over an AP Top-25 opponent in the Courtney Banghart era and ties for the largest in program history since 2019.
Coming away with the hard fought 69-67 win against Stanford on The Farm, Carolina drained nine threes at a 52.9% clip for its highest percentage from beyond the arc this season. Four Tar Heels teamed up on this feat, with Alyssa Ustby leading the way in matching her career-high with four made triples.
Carolina remains blazing hot on the road this season at 6-0 overall, its best start in true road games since the 2005-06 season. Sitting at 5-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference away games, UNC kicks off conference action with the mark for the first time since the 2007-08 season. Currently, Carolina is one of three teams nationally remaining undefeated on the road this season.
The Tar Heels remain on the road and return to action on Sunday with a visit to Clemson. Tip against the Tigers can be streamed on ACCNX at 2 p.m. ET.
