SCOUTING THE CANES
➤ Miami brings a 14-12 record into Chapel Hill, having gone 1-5 in the ACC so far.
➤ Their lone midweek game was an 11-2 loss at home to Stetson. The Hatters had jumped out to a nine-run lead by the time Miami got on the board with a Derek Williams solo shot in the 5th.Â
➤ They opened conference play on the road at Wake Forest, losing all three contests. Saturday's game was a 5-4 defeat in the 10th before a 12-10 loss on Sunday to close it out.Â
➤ Last weekend at home against Florida State, the Canes took Saturday's matchup 9-6 but dropped a 14-1 run-rule on Friday and a 10-6 collapse on Sunday.
➤ The Canes are lead by second-year head coach J.D. Arteaga. The team's all-time wins leader as a player served as an assistant for 21 years before his promotion.
HAD TO BE HAUGH
➤ On Monday, Aidan Haugh was named both the ACC's and the NCBWA's Pitcher of the Week  following his one-hit, complete game shutout of Boston College in Sunday's 10-0 run-rule win.Â
➤ It is his time winning either award in his career.Â
➤ The righty from Zebulon, N.C., held a no-hitter until the final batter, throwing 7.0 innings while racking up 11 strikeouts on just one hit and one walk.
➤ The absolute gem set a number of career benchmarks for Haugh. It was both his first complete game and first shutout while also being a new career-high in innings pitched and strikeouts.
➤ The senior has been absolutely dealing in conference play. His ridiculous .051 opposing batting average and three hits allowed lead the ACC. He has the third best ACC-only ERA (0.98) and the fourth most strikeouts (22).
➤ In BC's final at-bat on Sunday, the hitter struck his own teammate (Haugh's lone walk) with a grounder for the final out. By the technical NCAA rules, the batter is automatically awarded a hit even though it was the final out and the game was over. That close to Carolina's first non-combined no-no since 1978.
THAT FISH CAN FLY
➤ Right fielder Tyson Bass comes into the series against the Canes red-hot as the transfer seems to be finding his footing at the Division I level.Â
➤ On a team-high active eight game hitting streak, Bass has gone five of his last nine at the plate with seven RBIs, two runs, a double, and a homer.
➤ His speed has been an asset all season, stealing outs in right and stealing the second most bases on the team (9) on the base paths. Â
➤ A North Carolina Wesleyan (alma-mater of one Scott Forbes) transplant, Bass was the Bishops' all-time leader in home runs (48) and runs scored (227).
SHIPPED UP TO BOSTON AND CLASHED IN CHARLOTTEÂ
➤ Over the weekend, Carolina traveled north for their third ACC weekend series, facing Boston College.Â
➤ Jake Knapp, moved to the Friday starter role by Forbes for this game, ensured a UNC victory to kick things off by only allowing two hits and one run in the 5-1 win.Â
➤ Saturday's contest went to the Eagles, setting up a Sunday rubber match. UNC got big performances on the mound and at the plate in that game to take the series with a 10-0 run-rule win.Â
➤ An absolute gem from Aidan Haugh (more on that on pg. 3) was supported by 13 hits and nine RBIs.Â
➤ Hunter Stokely and Tyson Bass led the way with three RBIs a piece, including Stokely's ninth homer.Â
➤ In the midweek, UNC made the short trip to Charlotte to take on South Carolina and found themselves in an offensive slug fest. The true Carolina emerged with a 13-8 victory thanks in large part to four home runs.Â
➤ Luke Stevenson hit two long balls, the second a two-run blast that broke an 8-8 deadlock in the eighth.Â
➤ The Diamond Heels got production from the top to the bottom of the lineup, as every single starter scored on the night. Four guys did so more than once.Â
STOKING THE FLAMES
➤ First baseman Hunter Stokely has come out of the gates absolutely on fire to start the year for Carolina.
➤ He has nine home runs this season, already surpassing his previous high of six in 2023.Â
➤ Four of those long balls have been to the opposite field. He only had one oppo homer in his three previous seasons combined.Â
➤ On the year, he leads the team in batting average (.365), hits (35), and total bases (65).
