David Ford Makes Pro Debut At Colonial's Charles Schwab Challenge
May 21, 2025 | Men's Golf
David Ford, who rewrote the University of North Carolina men's golf record book, will make his professional debut this week at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
Â
Ford previously played as an amateur in PGA TOUR events in the 2023 Barbasol Championship, the 2023 RSM Classic and 2024 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Â
The Charles Schwab Challenge, which begins Thursday, May 22, is played on the same course (Colonial) where Ford won the Ben Hogan Collegiate Invitational last October.
Â
Ford is No. 1 in the current NCAA rankings and No. 1 in the PGA TOUR University standings. The Charles Schwab Challenge results will not play a factor in either Ford's NCAA ranking or his point total in the PGA TOUR University standings.
Â
The No. 1 player in PGA TOUR U earns his PGA card for the rest of 2025 and the 2026 PGA TOUR.
Â
Ford is a finalist for National Player-of-the Year honors and should become the first Tar Heel ever to earn first-team All-America honors in two different seasons.
Â
The Peachtree Corners, Ga., native set UNC men's golf single-season and career records for victories, scoring average, combined score to par, average score to par per round and rounds in the 60s.
Â
He became the first Tar Heel to win three consecutive tournaments, won five tournaments this season, and seven in his career. He helped the Tar Heels win 17 tournaments, including the 2024 ACC Championship, and finish in the top five in three consecutive NCAA Championships.
