Brantmeier & Hamilton Advance To Final Of American Collegiate Wildcard Playoffs
June 18, 2025 | Women's Tennis
ORLANDO, FLA.—The University of North Carolina's All-America doubles duo of junior Reese Brantmeier and freshman Alanis Hamilton came from behind to win their opening match in the American Collegiate Wildcard Playoffs on Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus, topping UCLA's Olivia Center and Kate Fakih, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Serving in the final game of the third set, the Tar Heel duo quickly went ahead, 40-0, then won the match on a perfect serve by Brantmeier on match point.
The match was originally scheduled for Tuesday night but was pushed back a day due to multiple weather delays.
Brantmeier and Hamilton advance and will meet DJ Bennett and Ava Hrastar of Auburn in Thursday's final in Orlando with a main draw wild card entry to the US Open on the line. The Auburn duo won their match on Tuesday before poor weather set in upon Orlando.
The new event featuring the top American collegiate players, which was announced earlier this spring, will more than double the average number of American collegiate players who earn US Open wild cards this year, with six guaranteed US Open wild card entries up for grabs. The winners of the singles and doubles competitions will earn US Open main draw singles and doubles wild cards, respectively, while the men's and women's singles finalists will earn US Open qualifying wild cards.
Brantmeier and Hamilton finished the year ranked No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's doubles rankings while helping lead the Tar Heels to their second consecutive Atlantic Coast Conference championship and the NCAA Championship semifinals.
