Stanford Shoots Past No. 14 MBB, 95-90
January 14, 2026 | Men's Basketball
STANFORD, CALIF. — Stanford hit 16 three-pointers and topped No. 14 North Carolina, 95-90, in an Atlantic Coast Conference thriller on Wednesday night in Maples Pavilion.
The 16 three-pointers equal the most allowed by a Tar Heel team in five seasons under Head Coach Hubert Davis. Opponents have hit 44 three-pointers in Carolina's last three games (14 each by SMU and Wake Forest and 16 by Stanford).
Ebuka Okorie scored 19 second-half points and a Stanford freshman-record 36 overall, hitting 12 of 20 shots and 9 of 11 free throws with nine assists and one turnover. Jeremy Dent-Smith hit 6 of 7 three-point tries, and Ryan Agarwal was 5 for 9 from long range with both scoring 20 points.
Caleb Wilson scored a season-high 26 points, including 20 on 8 for 8 shooting in the second half for Carolina, adding nine rebounds.
Henri Veesaar dominated early with 16 first-half points, including a pair of three-pointers. He posted his fifth 20-point effort of the season and tied his season high with 26 on 9 of 12 shooting. He has made multiple three-pointers in six of the last seven games.
Luka Bogavac and Seith Trimble both scored 13 points, with Trimble adding six rebounds.
The Cardinal shot 57.1 percent as a team and the Tar Heels were even better at 58.2 percent.
"Since Christmas break, we've talked about how we've struggled on that side of the floor," Davis said to the Tar Heel Sports Network of his team's defense. "Stanford shot 57 percent from the field for the game. It's very difficult to beat teams and to beat teams on the road when allowing them to shoot such a high percentage."
Carolina dropped to 68-11 under Davis when scoring 80 points or more and 35-3 when scoring 90-plus. UNC is now 8-1 this season and 43-2 under Davis when making at least 50 percent of its shots from the floor.
Wilson has a dozen 20-point games, tying for second-most in Tar Heel history by a freshman behind Tyler Hansbrough's 14 in 2005-06. He's scored in double figures in all 17 games, the third-longest streak by a UNC freshman to start a career.
Stanford shot 57.1 percent and hit six three-pointers in the first half, holding Carolina without a basket for over five minutes to cut a 12-point Tar Heel advantage down to 47-45 at the break.
The Tar Heels quickly rebuilt their lead to double digits, largely behind Wilson's 20 second-half points. Stanford refused to go away, however, using Okorie, the three-point shooting of Agarwal and Dent-Smith and late-game free throws to clinch the victory.
With the win, the Cardinal's third in four games, Stanford improved to 14-4 overall this season, 3-2 in the ACC. Carolina fell to 14-3, 2-2. UNC is now 13-2 all-time against Stanford, losing two in a row since the Cardinal joined the ACC.
