Tar Heels Honored As USBWA’s Team Of The Week

INDIANAPOLIS – Following three wins in seven days, No. 21 North Carolina women's basketball has been touted as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Team of the Week.
The Tar Heels earned its first victory over NC State last Monday on its home court since 2019, in a thrilling 61-59 win against the Wolfpack.
Trailing by as many as nine and by four at the half, Carolina outscored the Wolfpack 18-8 in the third quarter and assert control. The victory proved to be key for the Tar Heels as their first Quadrant 1 of the season, as Lanie Grant willed Carolina to success with a team-high 18 points.
Back in action on Thursday, the Tar Heels bested a gritty Clemson team in Chapel Hill, 53-44. Posting her fourth double-double of the season,
Nyla Harris led Carolina with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Carolina's defense paralyzed Clemson, holding the Tigers without a field goal for the final nine minutes of the contest.
Taking the quick trip to Winston-Salem, Carolina picked up its third dub of the week at Wake Forest, 84-56 for its largest margin of victory against the Demon Deacons in the Courtney Banghart era. Exploding from beyond the arc, Nyla Brooks tallied a career-high 21 points off five made threes. The freshman was all over the glass, snagging a career-best seven rebounds. All over the court, Indya Nivar stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds and matched a career-best with seven rebounds en route to Carolina's 20th win of the season.
With the successful week, Carolina earned its fifth consecutive 20-win season to match the longest streak since 2010-11 through 2014-15. The Tar Heels have also won seven straight ACC games for the third time in the last four seasons.
Carolina returns to the court on Thursday, hosting SMU from Carmichael Arena. Tip against one of the newest members of the Atlantic Coast Conference is set for 6 p.m. ET, airing on ACC Network.
