Gymnastics Drops Friday Meet Against NC State

Chapel Hill, N.C. -- No. 13 University of North Carolina gymnastics fell to no. 21 NC State on Friday night at Carmichael Arena. Three Tar Heels took home event titles with JoJo Valahovic earning the top score on beam and bars while Sydney Seabrooks secured first place on floor and senior Gwen Fink placed first in the all-around with a score of 39.250. Â

Rotation One – Vault (49.225)Â
Sydney Seabrooks and JoJo Valahovic both tied their season-best on vault. Seabrooks scored a 9.825 and Valahovic recorded a 9.925, leading the team in scores on the event. Valahovic was crowned the event winner with Kaya Forbes as runner-up, recording a score of 9.875.Â

Rotation Two – Bars (48.975)Â
Both Gwen Fink and Paige Prejean recorded team-highs 9.850 on bars for the night. Claire Stippich tied her season-best of 9.800. Â

Rotation Three – Beam (49.150)Â
The Tar Heels regained momentum on beam. Valahovic tied her career-high of 9.950 to bring home another event title. Sitppich also tied her career-best of 9.800.

For the final rotation of the night, Seabrooks stole the show with a score of 9.925 to win the event. Friday's performance marks the fifth time this season the freshman has recorded a 9.900 or higher on floor. Forbes came in third, scoring a 9.850.Â

The Tar Heels return to Carmichael Arena March 6 as they take on the Minnesota Gophers in non-conference competition. The meet is set to begin at 6:45 p.m. Â
