No. 8 Men's Lacrosse Cruises Over Iona, 23-7

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A balanced effort paced the No. 8 North Carolina men's lacrosse team over Iona, 23-7, Sunday afternoon in nonconference action.
With the win, Carolina improves to 3-0 on the season, while Iona falls to 0-4.
How It Happened
• Iona opened the contests scoring the game's first two goals, leading 2-0 with 12:19 left in the first.
• Carolina finished the period on a 4-0 burst, with two goals from Owen Duffy, as well as a score each from Luke Bair and Luke Macaluso.
• The Tar Heels outscored the Gaels 8-2 in the second quarter, taking an eight-goal lead into halftime, 12-4.
• After the half, Carolina scored nine of the 10 goals in the third quarter, holding a 21-5 advantage after three.
• In the final 15 minutes, each team posted a pair of goals, securing the Tar Heel victory.
Tar Heel Performances
• Duffy led the Tar Heels with three goals and five assists.
• In total, 17 players scored a goal with five recording multiple goals.
• The goalkeeper trio of Josh Marcus, Kent Goode and Brayson Wilson combined for six saves on the day.
• Brady Wambach went 18-20 at the faceoff X, with 17 ground balls.
