Softball Wins Nine-Inning Marathon To Move To 15-0

ELON, N.C. – Carolina softball moved to 15-0 in a nine-inning marathon on Wednesday in its first road game of the season.
The game started with Shelby Barbee going deep to left field to immediately put the Tar Heels up 2-0. After that the Carolina bats would go quiet for a while.
Kenna Raye Dark looked great, twirling four innings with five strikeouts and not allowing an earned run. What hurt UNC was its defense. Four errors led to two unearned runs that allowed Elon to tie things up.
Kendall Frost came in during the fifth inning and was incredible. She put five straight zeros on the board, fanning four Phoenix batters in the process.
In the top of the ninth, the Carolina bats finally woke back up, and it all happened with two outs. Lindsay Lumsden came in and delivered a pinch hit single, then Lexie Roberts came right back in to run. Emily LeGette laced a line drive to the gap in right center that everyone thought would plate the go-ahead run but the ball got wedged into the wall so it resulted in a ground rule double and kept Roberts on third. Then Barbee sent the first pitch she saw right back up the middle to score both runners and give UNC a 4-2 lead. Her four RBI push her season total to 23 just one shy of her total for the entire 2025 season. After the clutch Barbee at bat, Michele Tarpey got hit by a pitch, then Kiannah Pierce tacked on some insurance with a single up the middle to plate Barbee and make it 5-3. Frost came out for the bottom half of the ninth and made quick work of Elon to give the Tar Heels their 15th straight win to open the season.
