Women’s Tennis Takes Down Sooners, 4-1

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – One-seeded University of North Carolina women's tennis took down second-seeded Oklahoma in a consolation match at ITA Team National Indoor Championship Sunday in Champaign, Ill. The Tar Heel victory is their fourth top-15 win of the season.
Carolina dropped the doubles point after Oklahoma took two of the three doubles matches. Tatum Evans and partner Anna Frey recorded the lone doubles win for the Tar Heels in a close matchup with Sooners Salakthip Ounmang/Julia Garcia Ruiz, 7-5.
UNC stormed back to take four-straight singles wins to seal the 4-1 team victory. No. 21 Tatum Evans got the Tar Heels back into the match with a dominant performance over her opponent from Oklahoma.
No. 7 Oby Kajuru kept the momentum rolling with a straight-set win over no. 12 Julia Garcia Ruiz to give Carolina a 2-1 edge.
No. 1 Reese Brantmeier topped Evialina Laskevich to put the Tar Heels ahead 3-1 with three singles matches left to clinch.
In a three-set battle, no. 51 Anna Frey downed no. 123 Chloe Noel to clinch the match for Carolina. Frey narrowly escaped the first set with a 7-5 win before falling in the second. The freshman grinded out the third set, 6-4, to secure the victory.
