Sheils Donegan Named To Palmer Cup International Team

North Carolina junior Niall Sheils Donegan was named to the international team for the 2026 Arnold Palmer Cup, which will be held July 3-5 at Tralee Golf Links in West Barrow, Ireland.

Sheils Donegan is the seventh Tar Heel and the second UNC international to play in the Palmer Cup. Max Harris represented England in 1998,1999 and 2000.

Tar Heels Dustin Bray (2003), David Ford (2023 and 2024), Maxwell Ford (2024), Austin Greaser (2023) and Dylan Menante (2023) played for the United States.

Sheils Donegan is a native of Glasgow, Scotland. He played for Team Great Britain & Ireland in 2025 in the Walker Cup at Cypress Point Golf Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.

Sheils Donegan currently leads the ninth-ranked Tar Heels in scoring average at 69.26, the second-lowest in UNC single-season history. He has finished 10th, third, first and 10th in his last four starts, including his first collegiate win on April 12 at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate.

The Arnold Palmer Cup began in 1997. It is a Ryder Cup-style, multi-day event that features 24 players (12 men and 12 women) per team. The international side won, 35-25, last year in South Carolina, but the U.S. leads the competition, 15-13-1.
