A Note From James Hurst

Members of Our UNC Family,
I just wanted to take some time to reflect on my UNC experience with all of you. First, I'd like to thank everyone for the enduring support that you gave my team and me in these past four years. Even through the many spells of adversity we faced, nobody gave up. Everyone continued to live by the values that make Carolina special. Being a member of the team during those times, I want to again say thank you. Your support was invaluable to the team and the winning atmosphere that we continued to carry on throughout those difficult times.
I am currently training for the National Football League in Carlsbad, California, at the EXOS Facility. This experience has been absolutely incredible for me. As some of you many know, I broke my leg in my last collegiate game on December 28. That resulted in yet another string of adversity for me with regards to my future career. However, my Carolina experience and the many people I met in my four years prepared me for this unlucky situation. I am officially up and running (literally) now in the midst of training for the UNC Pro Day on March 25. My rehab is speeding along and I will be ready to compete on that March 25 date. Brent Callaway, a UNC track and field alum, is the EXOS head strength and conditioning coach here in Carlsbad. He is just another great example of the success of our Tar Heel community.
Again, I just wanted to say thank you for everything that you have done for my football family and me. Myself and the eight other December graduates cannot thank you enough for the many things you have taught us in our four and five year Carolina careers. Our Carolina education and overall experience will be unrivaled in our many different career paths as we move forward in life. I am very grateful for the immense positive impact that you have had on my life. I'm looking forward to seeing some of you around campus in late March and April!
