Christopher Luke, widely considered one of the most respected in his profession at the national level, enters his 12th season as Carolina’s Director of Football Video and Technology and 25th season overall. Luke plays a vital role in the success of the Tar Heel football program by managing all aspects of internal team video and game analysis needs for the football coaching staff and players.
Luke is the lead game analysis system administrator in Kenan Football Center utilized by coaches, staff and athletes. He is responsible for analytical support of computer and video technologies including the taping of all games and practices, opponent video exchange, self-scout and opponent breakdowns, ingesting all NFL games, and create video cut-ups used as teaching tools. He supervises one full time assistant and 14 student staff members. Luke has also played a major role in the audio/visual upgrades and improvement of the Kenan Football Center. He was directly involved with the audio/visual integration for the new football practice facility featuring A/V technology supporting the needs of the football players and coaching staff.
In a vote by his peers, Luke was named the 2011-12 and 2014-15 ACC Video Coordinator of the Year by the Collegiate Sports Video Association (CSVA). Luke was also named the 2012 Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year by the CSVA. The award, which is voted on by other video coordinators in the profession, is presented to the individual who possesses the qualities and attributes of the late Bob Matey, the former video coordinator at Texas A&M.
Prior to working at UNC, Luke was the assistant video coordinator at Texas A&M from 2004-08. Luke was the leader in educating and implementing a file transfer program allowing all Big 12 schools to be the first BCS conference to successfully exchange football game video over its peer to peer network. Previously, Luke worked for two years at Missouri as the assistant director of video and was in charge of the daily operations of the football staff while assisting in the video management of 22 sports. Prior to that appointment, Luke did his graduate work in the speech communication/instructional technology department at Northern Illinois University while serving as the football video coordinator for two seasons. Luke began his career at Eastern Illinois as the student video coordinator in 1994 and graduated with Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications with an emphasis in radio/television production in December of 1998.
Luke is a former two-term President and three-term Vice President of the CSVA, which promotes the role of the video professional in the sports industry. He is a native of Hoopeston, Illinois, home of the Cornjerkers.
