Two-time all-state, all-conference lineman • Led his high school to its first league championship in 37 years • Played offensive and defensive tackle • Named to the Michigan Dream Team by the Detroit News • Coached by Dave Lawrence • Had 41 pancake blocks as a senior and 115 in his career • Had 31 tackles, including three for losses, as a senior • Played basketball and competed in track and field in the discus and shot put for three years • State runner-up as a junior in the discus (153-7 feet) and shot (56-7 1/2).
