One of the team’s veteran players. Has contributed at running back and on special teams for three years. Needs to become more consistent in all aspects of the game if he wants to grab the starting job at fullback. Can be effective both running with and catching the ball. Working on becoming a better lead blocker.
1999 -- Junior Season
Played in all 11 games as the number two fullback and on special teams. Played 219 snaps. Rushed seven times for 14 yards and two touchdowns. Scored on a pair of 1-yard runs in the 42-30 win at Indiana. It was the only two touchdown game of the year by a Tar Heel. Returned three kickoffs for 45 yards.
1998 -- Sophomore Season
Played in 10 regular-season games and the Las Vegas Bowl. Did not play against Georgia Tech due to a concussion he suffered in the Stanford game. Started the first two games at tailback. Moved back to fullback for the rest of the season. Had 25 carries for 61 yards and one score. Rushed for a season-high 38 yards on 14 carries against Miami. Scored on a two-yard run early in the fourth quarter in the win over Pittsburgh. Caught five passes for 36 yards.
1997 -- Freshman Season
Played in all 11 regular-season games and made his first career start against Duke. Started in place of Deon Dyer who suffered a broken leg in the Clemson game a week earlier. Did not have any carries, but caught three passes for 21 yards. Had a 13-yard reception against No. 17 Stanford and had two catches for eight yards against Duke. Played an average of 15 plays per game. Was red-shirted in 1996.
Mays High School
All-state, all-region and all-city. Started four years at tailback. Ran for more than 3,000 yards in his career, including a single-season high of 980 yards as a senior. Received the school’s leadership award three straight years and the community citizens’ award twice. Coached by Kirby McDaniel.
Personal
Born Ronnie Lorenzo Robinson on Oct. 11, 1977. Majoring in sociology. Favorite pro teams are the Dallas Cowboys and Atlanta Falcons. Favorite athlete is Michael Johnson. Greatest athletic achievement was rushing for 300 yards and five touchdowns on his mother's birthday as a junior in high school. Other favorite sport is baseball. Hobbies are singing, drawing and traveling.
